Albert Edward Gates

Albert E. R. (or P., unreadable on 1900 census) Gates was born July 15, 1884 in Hartwell, township of Springfield, Hamilton County, in Ohio. He was the 6th child and the 4th son of John Charles Marcus Gates and Elizabeth La Salle Meyers. In 1900, he is listed in Hartwell, age 15. His father is listed as a traveling salesman. In 1907, Albert marries Alvina Knapp, at ages 22 and 18.

In 1910 he is 25 years old, a salesman in specialties, married to Alvina Knapp, 23, with their 3 month-old daughter, Mary Jane. They are living with Alvina's parents, Bernard H. Knapp, and Alavina, with Bernard and Alavina's 2 sons and one Irish servant. Bernard is listed as a merchant in hardware.

In 1920 Albert is 34 and Alvina is 30 and they are living in Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan.They have 3 children: Mary Jane, 10, Ruth, 8, and A. Edward, 7. Albert is a sales manager at an oil company.

By 1930 Albert is a manager at Purr Oil and Gas company in Van Buren, Montgomery County, Ohio. He is 42 and Alvina K. is 38 and their children are ages 19, 17 and 16.

Alvina (Knapp) Gates died 15 May 1971, at age 83. Two years later, on Dec. 29, 1973, Albert died of prostate cancer (onset two years) at age 89. He was buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. His death certificate listed his address as 1730 Madison Road, Cincinnati, Ohio. His occupation on his death certificate listed retired from Cincinnati Credit Bureau. The informant was Mrs. Thomas Bunker, who was his oldest daughter, Mary Jane, and she was listed as living at 1215 Delta Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio.
